Here is a recording of my first-year project, which I presented digitally in the exhibition Third _, the 2021 Digital Arts Computing Degree Show.
This project is a VR experience that explores a hypothetical future in which the more-than-human world reacts to the ecological damage caused by capitalist environmentally-destructive activities. In this fabulation, abandoned human-made structures are overtaken by different species of plants in an act of revenge for the damage done.
Since I did not have access to the necessary VR technology due to the pandemic restrictions, I instead used A-Frame (an open-source web framework for VR based on HTML) in order to create a 3D immersive website.
The initial scene shows a modern living room. Suddenly, there's a sound coming from the ceiling. When looking upwards, the plaster is broken and through the whole you could see a reddish, polluted sky. Afterwards, the room has turned into a postapocalyptic, abandoned version of the prior one — now completely covered in plants.
Here are some initial sketches of the room before and after the non-human takeover. Next are the translation of this sketches into 3D using Blender. Finally, there are is an animated turntables for each one of the Blender scenes.
